All businesses operating in Duns and the surrounding areas are invited to participate

Scottish Borders Council are currently supporting the Workforce Mobility project which is funded by the Edinburgh and South-East Scotland City Region Deal.  The Workforce Mobility Project has been initiated to understand and mitigate (where possible) transport barriers to employment, further education and training in the region.   

The Workforce Mobility Project is currently focusing on the collation of employee postcode origin and destination data from businesses in the Scottish Borders.  We have initially engaged with Scottish Borders Council, NHS Borders and Borders College and collected information on circa 15,000 journeys that are made daily.  The vast majority of these journeys are made using the car with limited usage of the existing public transport network.

The employee postcode origin and destination data will be analysed to understand the following: 

·           Can your employees use the public transport network to access work within an acceptable travel time;

·           How the public transport network could be changed to provide transport services for more people in the community;

·           Could the public transport network open up new areas for employee participation in the region;

·           What new infrastructure is required to support communities to engage with the public transport network;

·           Whether bus operators can offer specific employee discounts to employers that engage with the Workforce Mobility project; and

·           What carbon emissions can be saved by your employees accessing work.

This analysis is being undertaken by the Workforce Mobility Project Team and the outputs will be shared with businesses who share employee postcode data.  The analysis will also feed into a full review of the existing Scottish Borders bus network which will commence this summer.
